Utah’s public lands are central to our way of life. They provide places to hunt, fish, camp, hike, and explore, while supporting our economy, strengthening rural communities, and preserving the landscapes that make our state unique. With nearly two-thirds of Utah’s land controlled by the federal government, it is essential that Utah has a meaningful voice in how these lands are cared for.

The Utah House of Representatives believes the people who know Utah’s lands best should have a greater role in managing them. Good stewardship means protecting our state’s archaeological, cultural, and natural treasures while actively managing the surrounding landscape to improve wildlife habitat, reduce wildfire risk, maintain public access, and ensure these lands remain healthy and productive for future generations.

Over the past several years, the Legislature has invested in wildfire mitigation, watershed restoration, water conservation, and habitat improvements while advocating for balanced, multiple-use management of Utah’s public lands. We recognize that conservation and responsible use go hand in hand and that thoughtful management benefits both our resources and the communities that depend on them.

We will continue working to strengthen Utah’s voice in public land decisions, promote active stewardship, and protect the outdoor traditions that define our state. By balancing conservation with responsible use, we can ensure Utah’s public lands remain a source of opportunity, recreation, and pride for generations to come.
